Georg Telemann ⎹ Gulliver Suite
Georg Telemann was a prolific self taught violinist who lived from 1681-1867 in Germany. Apart from violin, he also played recorder, oboe, viola da gamba, chalumeau, and clavier. During his lifetime, he published over 50 works and was known for his ability to write fluently in many different styles.
Below is a video of the first movement of his work, Fantasia in D major, TWV 40:17 to give you an introduction to his compositions.
His piece, Gulliver Suite TWV 40 was a musical illustration of the popular Gulliver's Travels by Johnathan Swift. The satirical story was about a sailor named Gulliver who visited a series of undiscovered islands inhabited by eccentric people meant to poke a bit of fun towards humanity's best and worst attributes.
